Elderberry Syrup is a must have in your herbal medicine chest. This amazing berry is chock full of wonderful health benefits for the whole family. It is rich in vitamin C and antioxidants and supports a healthy immune system. Its antiviral properties make it an ideal remedy for cold & flu prevention and to shorten the duration of the flu once it has taken hold. I love to give this syrup to my kids daily during the cold & flu season to keep them healthy. This simple recipe is so easy to make. You can make a big batch and store it in the fridge to keep throughout the winter months!
Ingredients:
4 cups Distilled Water
2 cups Dried Elderberries
Raw, Local Honey
Brewing Instructions:
Add Water and Elderberries to a saucepan and bring to a boil. Turn it down to a simmer and simmer on low for approximately 20-30 minutes.
Remove from heat and allow the mixture to cool about 10 minutes. Strain the mixture through cheesecloth into a measuring cup. Take note of the volume because you will need an equal amount of honey.
Pour the liquid back into a clean saucepan and add an equal amount of honey. Gently warm the mixture for 3-5 minutes until well combined (do not boil!).
Pour the mixture in a clean glass bottle and store in the fridge. Enjoy!
